4 Important Things to Remind Yourself

I am grateful, but I do get discouraged. When I feel like a failure, these are 4 things I remind myself. I guess these reminders help affirm that life is not perfect and it’s okay.

No one is perfect: Yes, no one is perfect. I am not perfect. You are not perfect. Humans are not perfect. Someone will have different gifts and talents than you but that doesn’t make them perfect. You will have different gifts and talents than others too. And that’s completely okay. I’m not saying that you shouldn’t try to improve your skills or learn new ones, but I am suggesting that we learn from one another. We accept that we’re not perfect. We don’t compare ourselves to one another. We embrace our differences.

You are beautiful, unique, and worthy: I’m not implying that you’re perfect and should be inconsiderate of others. But, I am implying that your best is good enough. Don’t place your worth on someone else’s expectation of you. Sometimes we spend so much time trying to prove ourselves or trying to get approval/acceptance from others, we feel like we will never be good enough. Doing your best doesn’t mean doing things perfectly. Whether someone likes you or someone doesn’t, you are beautiful, unique, and worthy. Respect yourself, love yourself, know yourself.

It’s okay to celebrate success: If you’ve succeeded at something after much hours and dedication—it’s okay to be proud of what you’ve accomplished. If someone you know is proud about something they’ve accomplished—feel proud with and for them. Don’t put them down by saying “they can do better” or “what they accomplished wasn’t even that difficult.” Just like how we celebrate that first baby step—we should celebrate all the baby steps we will take. With that said, there is a place and time for critical criticism but know the difference between genuine critical criticism and unhelpful opinion. All in all, it’s okay to be proud of your accomplishments and remember that the meaning of success is different to everyone.

Rejection or failing doesn’t mean “the end”: If you get rejected, that doesn’t mean you’re a failure. If you fail that doesn’t mean you’re not good enough. In regards to a job, a lot of times you’re just not what the people are looking for or you probably won’t fit the company’s culture and that’s okay. If your work didn’t get accepted, that probably just means it wasn’t what they were looking for. At the end of the day rejection is part of life, it’s what you make of it that will push you forward to achieve and excel. If you have to try again then try again. Try different things, try different approaches, try different people. Let it drive you instead of drain you. Plus, sometimes rejection happens because there’s something better on its way.

These 4 daily reminders have helped me. I hope they encourage you. Truth is, everyone’s trying to figure out this thing called “life.” I think life will always be a struggle and always about trying to find balance. So in the midst of chaos or failures, be reminded that no one is perfect, life is messy, but you’re still unique and worthy, and it’s okay to celebrate yourself and others.
